Overview

Shima Cafe is a branding and web development project for a specialty coffee and subtropical island-inspired cafe. Targeting major commercial hubs in Tokyo, such as Shibuya and Omotesando, the cafe offers a healthy menu including lattes made with authentic Amami brown sugar, Kagoshima organic ceremonial-grade matcha, and organic acai bowls, aiming to provide a peaceful oasis in the middle of the busy metropolis.

Web site

Objective

The project aimed to create a digital platform that effectively communicates Shima Cafe’s unique offerings (sustainable single-origin coffee, pure ceremonial matcha, health-focused food, and a cozy workspace with Wi-Fi and power outlets). To optimize organic search visibility in modern ecosystems, the website implements clean information architecture and strategic SEO / Local SEO (MEO) optimizations targeting primary keywords, as well as formatting optimized for AI search engines (like Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT).

Target

・Students and remote professionals looking for a cozy environment with high-speed Wi-Fi and accessible power outlets.
・Health and wellness enthusiasts seeking organic acai bowls, plant-based options, and clean ingredients.
・Specialty coffee purists and tea connoisseurs seeking single-origin coffee and high-quality ceremonial Kagoshima matcha.
・Families looking for spacious, stroller-accessible seating, and travelers interested in traditional Amami culture and hospitality.

Design

Inspired by the turquoise waters and ancient forests of Amami Oshima, the design blends warm, tropical vibes with modern sophistication. The website features an elegant, airy layout with generous whitespace and a natural color palette of greens and earthy wood tones. By integrating organic graphic elements reminiscent of the traditional Oshima Tsumugi silk fabric, cedar wood textures, and hand-crafted pottery, the visual identity communicates the feeling of an island escape.
